Spirit Midwest, the non-profit ministry that runs Iowa's largest FREE Christian music festival, is moving fifteen minutes south of Des Moines to St Charles, Iowa. The two-day festival begins at 4:00 PM on Friday, August 3rd and runs through Saturday at midnight. It will feature bands and performers from around the globe, guest speakers, a free Kids Zone, food, merchandise, camping and more.
Spirit Midwest founder Julie Barnes said that the new venue was offered by owners Eric & Lorraine Rokitnicki & their daughter, Renatta Bolen, who are developing the property to be the next premier festival site in Iowa. “The location is idyllic and just the right distance from the Metro to allow for a true 'family getaway weekend' to remember,” said Barnes.
The festival will be held on 90 acres at 3357 St Charles Road in St Charles and will be home to a beautiful, natural amphitheater for the Main Stage, a newly renovated Insider Stage and a fully shaded Wood Stage which will also feature freeform camp sites. Registration for camping will be available at www.spiritmidwest.com sometime next month.
The Festival is a family event with artists for all generations and musical tastes. As the festival lineup develops, it is posted to www.spiritmidwest.com/festival and on Spirit Midwest's Facebook page - www.facebook.com/spiritmidwest.
Spirit Midwest's Christian Music Festival is free to attend because the ministry wants to reach anyone who is interested in hearing the Gospel. The free admission is only possible with strong support from individuals, businesses and communities surrounding the festival.

We are so excited to be in Mexico this week working with the missionaries at Puente de Amistad, as well as the short-term mission teams from New Hope Christian College and Northwestern Christian University. We've worked/played at orphanage, ministered in a church and passed out food, clothes, toys, etc in a very poor colonia outside the city. Tonight we will feed the homeless in downtown Tijuana, then tomorrow we had back to the states.

Sidewalk Prophets – two-time Dove award-nominated artists soaring to the top of the AC Charts with their debut single “The Words I Would Say” – have just annouced their inclusion in the Sixth Annual Spirit Midwest Christian Music Festival. Favored artists two years running with the Winter Jam tour, Sidewalk Prophets have been the most requested band for Spirit Midwest 2011, so we are thrilled to include them in our lineup.
Their latest album, These Simple Truths, explodes with sparkling pop, raucous rock and beautiful ballads that will convince even the most jaded listener that these guys know how to craft intelligent, inspired music that fits comfortably inside the box, but may not be content to stay there.
Along with Sidewalk Prophets, Spirit Midwest 2011 will have forty-five to fifty additional bands on three stages, a FREE inflatable village, fantastic guest speakers, food and merchandise vendors and much more! This FREE outdoor music festival will be held on Friday and Saturday, August 5th & 6th at the Jordan Park Camp at 2251 Fuller Road in West Des Moines, Iowa.

The Second Annual Valentine Dinner & Dance hosted by Spirit Midwest Ministries at the Holiday Inn & Suites at Jordan Creek exceeded all expectations last Sunday night. Tim Cooper set the ambiance as he opened the evening with masterful piano playing throughout the dinner – which was exquisitely catered by Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse and topped off with a phenomenal made-to-order Raspberry Chocolate Mousse Cake.
With over 100 people in attendance, the dance floor overflowed as soon as the professional dance instructors opened the floor for the merengue lessons. Jim & Suzi Benjamin, courtesy of Dance-A-Cross and Des Moines Dance, were brilliant instructors providing just the right mix of serious instruction with humorous anecdotes. Only four chairs remained occupied once the lessons began – and it was a rare moment when the dance floor wasn’t filled with couples enjoying Jimmy Olsen’s mix of dance music throughout the night.
Brandi Sanders and Cia Barnes were onsite to attend to everyone’s needs, including photography from beginning to end. Pictures are posted on the Media Page of Spirit Midwest’s website (www.spiritmidwest.com). Guests can browse the photo album and order the photo(s) of their choice to be emailed directly to them in full size, high resolution format, or – even better - special order their photos cropped and sized to their specifications, delivered to right their home!
Before the night was over, plans were already in place for the Valentine Dinner & Dance of 2012 – mark your calendars, set your reminders, or simply order your tickets today so you don’t miss out next year. This is definitely the “Best of Des Moines” for Valentine’s Day!

The Sixth Annual Spirit Midwest Christian Music Festival has just announced the return of their most requested returning band: WILLET . Everyone who saw their show last year said that these guys were amazing! Not just musically, but also personally and spiritually. We can't wait to see them again this year!
WILLET is comprised of three brothers (Jeremy, Justin and Jordan Willet), who grew up in Westminster, MD and got their start in music after taking piano lessons from their father. Jeremy is the lead singer and he lives in Haiti with his wife. He travels back and forth in between tours, while Justin and Jordan still reside in Maryland when off the road. In just five years as an independent band, WILLET has sold over 10,000 records, adopted three villages in Africa and one community in Haiti, found sponsors for over 1500 orphaned children, funded a missionary to Haiti (Jeremy's wife), released five albums, performed over 1000 concerts around the world, and landed a number 1 single on CRW independent radio. In addition to releasing all five albums worldwide, the band has delivered worship songs for congregational use in North America through CCLI. They have a strong heart for missions and are genuine ministers – both in music and in their speaking.
They'll be featured on all of our stages throughout the weekend – August 5 & 6 - so you'll have plenty of opportunity to get to know them - you'll be glad you did!
Contact Julie Barnes at 515-577-8035 or Julie@spiritmidwest.com or visit http://www.spiritmidwest.com for more information.
While the Sixth Annual Spirit Midwest Christian Music Festival is still seven months away, we're thrilled to announce MANAFEST as our ROCK STAGE headliner on Friday night, August 5th. With double and triple plays every day on Christian radio stations, their latest album "The Chase" is topping the charts world wide. Early-release single "Avalanche" was instantly a smash hit and second release "No Plan B" has already hit the top twenty ROCK charts in Canada and is soaring up the charts across the globe. Manafest’s aggressive new style compelled us to meet with Chris Greenwood - who is Manafest - to see if his ministry matched our goals for Spirit Midwest. The answer was a resounding "YES!"
Along with Manafest, we will have another 45-50 bands on three stages, guest speakers on our new Seminar Stage, a FREE inflatable village, lots of food and merch vendors and more! This FREE family-friendly music festival will be held on Friday, August 5 from 5:00-11:00 PM and Saturday, August 6 from 11:00 AM-11:00 PM at the Jordan Park Camp, 2251 Fuller Road, West Des Moines, Iowa.

We are passionate in our efforts to share the Gospel of Christ - that’s what we’re all about. Therefore, we're excited to be able to send short-term mission teams to Tijuana, Mexico.
These teams work directly with churches, orphanages, feeding kitchens, battered women's shelters and more! Sometimes we simply show God's unconditional love while we play with the orphans, have devotions with the battered women, or help feed the hungry children. Other times, we share in the local churches through preaching, singing, drama, and prayer. Other times there are work projects including preparing foundations for concrete pours, assisting in building houses for the impoverished, painting, repairing roofs, etc. Whatever our role, there's a place for you!
We'd love to include you on Tijuana Team II. The cost includes food, lodging, airfare, transportation and ministry expenses! Please call me at 515-577-8035 to reserve your place on our team! Our registration deadline is September 4, 2008.
Igniting His passion in our hearts...
In sending these teams our goal is not only to share the Gospel with the people of Tijuana, but also to ignite a passion in the hearts of those who minister . . . a passion to witness, to evangelize and to disciple. Without that passion, the directive to “go and make disciples” is often overlooked and forgotten. We want to awaken that passion and ignite that fire so people will burn with a hunger to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ - not just in Tijuana, but also at home.
It's up to us to go!

Filling the summer with bands on floats in parades, running a stage at the Bash on the Farm, presenting bands throughout the state at Praise in the Parks and local coffee shops hasn't been enough for Spirit Midwest! Bring your spouse, friends and family to an awesome three-course dinner and join Anavox for an amazing time of worship that will lead you into the very presence of God. This dinner is far more than just music and food - it's an evening of worship and prayer that ushers in the festival on Saturday. We were truly blessed last year and knew that this was a tradition we needed to bring back year after year. What better way to launch a festival than to join in worship and prayer (over a great meal, of course!) with your family and friends?!
There is limited seating for this Intimate Evening of Worship, so please give me a call at 577-8035 or Al at 334-800 if you'd like to reserve your spot!
Local pastors & regional ministry directors to speak at free event.
The 2007 Spirit Midwest Christian Music Festival is bigger and better than ever with radio favorites Overflow and Anavox among the many bands performing throughout the day. Central Iowa’s premiere, free outdoor Christian music festival will be held Saturday, July 21st at the Ankeny Bandshell in Ankeny, Iowa. Last year’s festival had a steady flow of people from all over the metro area; organizers expect to triple or even quadruple the numbers this year.
The festival kicks off at noon with On This Rock, a worship band from New Hope Assembly of God Church in Urbandale. They’re followed by a local blues band out of Beaverdale, Remnant; then Greenhill, a hot new band out of Cedar Falls; and a local acoustic rock favorite, Tim Cooper & Friends. The afternoon culminates in an extended set by national recording artists, Overflow. Then we kick off the evening with Oklahoma alternative/rock favorites, Radial Angel; an exciting Indie band out of Nebraska, Remedy Drive; and an extended set with Anavox, Nashville’s up-and-coming pop/rock artists.
Between bands, Spirit Midwest will feature local and regional speakers from various ministries including Alan Greene, president and co-founder of LifeLight Communications which promotes LifeLight Festival in Sioux Falls, SD; Warren McElvaney, pastor of Jacob’s Well Church in Des Moines; Jeff Hauser, director of Hands in Motion ministry to the deaf; Seth Dunham, Youth Pastor of Heartland Assembly of God Church; Shane Vander Hart, Chaplain/training specialist for Serve our Youth Network in Des Moines; and Mike Nelson, former youth pastor of Eastwood Church.
Now in its second year, Spirit Midwest is held annually at the bandshell in Ankeny, IA. This year’s festival will attract people from all over the Midwest for an awesome day of faith, fun, and fellowship through concerts, guest speakers, a family fun zone (featuring the National Guard climbing wall), concessions, merchandise and more!
Spirit Midwest begins at noon on Saturday, July 21st and ends around 10:00 PM. Spirit Midwest 2007 is a free event, thanks to the sponsorship of many local businesses. Call 515-577-8035 or visit http://www.spiritmidwest.com for more information.
Spirit Midwest Ministries is a faith-based, non-profit organization that facilitates concerts, conferences, festivals and other events by partnering with churches, businesses and ministries. The Spirit Midwest festival, held annually in July, is their largest event. For more information, please visit http://www.spiritmidwest.com.
Just six more weeks till Spirit Midwest 2007! Are you as excited as I am? I hope so - and I hope that your excitement is contagious! Are you telling all your friends, neighbors, co-workers and strangers on the street? We sure are! Al and I spent a few hours in Ankeny today, going to various businesses along Delaware and 1st Street. It's amazing how long it took us to put up a dozen posters! Unfortunately, Al had to work this evening, so we weren't able to keep going, but at least we got started!
If you, your church's youth group, your kids, your friends - or anyone you know! - would like to help us get the posters up, let me know. Al or I would be happy to bring them to you! Of course, it would be great to get a poster up at your church, in the youth room, and wherever else people will see it. We'd also love to print out some inserts for your church bulletin if your pastor will allow you to put them in - again we deliver!
Speaking of getting posters up in your church, we're still trying to update our database of churches with point people who will help us all across the city by putting up posters, sharing bulletin inserts and spreading the word. I thought it might be easy for you to forward our web address on to the people you think might be interested. Then they can just send me their contact information (julie@spiritmidwest.com). Pretty easy, huh?!?
As you know, we've added something new for Spirit Midwest 2007: An Intimate Evening of Worship. While many of the details for the evening are coming together great - including free advertising with Van and Bonnie on WHO Radio! - we really need to start selling some tickets. They're available at www.itickets.com as well as Wellspring in Urbandale and the Family Christian Store in Ankeny. Please be praying with us that this evening is a great success, a huge blessing to each person who comes and especially to God - the One we worship.
Many churches are trying to do away with a bunch of bulletin inserts, so we thought we'd write up a brief announcement for Spirit Midwest, which you could forward to your church secretary for inclusion in the bulletin inself - rather than having a separate insert (with your pastor's permission, of course) - so here it is:
Spirit Midwest is a free, one-day Christian music festival from noon to10:00 pm featuring nine bands including radio favorites Anavox and Overflow; a Family Fun Zone with the National Guard climbing wall, a jousting ring, an obstacle course, and bounce houses; guest speakers; concessions; merchandise and more! A great day of fun for the whole family! For more info call Julie at 515-577-8035 or visit www.spiritmidwest.com.
Well, it's been great updating you. Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything at all - like posters, bulletin inserts, cards, flyers . . . . Thanks for spending some time with me.
God bless!
